An Ohio man is in critical condition after falling more than sixty feet while hiking in the Grand Canyon in Northern Arizona.
According to the National Park Service, the 47 year old man was hiking the Grandview Trail with friends when he lost his footing, falling over the edge of the massive, nearly 300 mile long canyon.

The accident happened shortly after 3:00 p.m. The hiker, who remains in critical condition was airlifted out of the canyon, and taken to nearby Flagstaff Medical Center.
Accidents at the Grand Canyon are not uncommon. The canyon attracts thousands of visitors per year from around the world, some who are simply not prepared for the massive scope of the canyon. Every year, dozens of hikers are seriously injured or killed.
The canyon is home to a bevy of wildlife, and countless recreational opportunities, including hiking, white-water rafting, bird watching, photography and pack mule excursions. Designated a national monument in 1908, and a national park in 1919, Grand Canyon National Park remains one of the oldest national parks in America.
